PROJECT
THE GOAL
The goal of the project was to create a beer design that would be fresh, modern and would attract attention.
Kråkö Bryggeri is a new brewery in Porvoo that has been constantly selling more and more beer. The brewery started in 2020 and on their first year already sold about 30 000 liters of handcrafted beer. The brewery is selling their beer to restaurants and stores in Porvoo. There are over 1 million tourists visiting the Porvoo Old town on a normal year, so combining handcraft beer with Porvoo City design is to attract locals and tourist. Locals to buy beer with the brand that they recognize and tourists to have a souvenir related to Porvoo - but with a modern twist. The idea was to combine two things: Porvoo city 675 year celebration and Kråkö Bryggeri. The 675 year celebration has it’s own logo that was used in the bottle. Kråkö Bryggeri is a brewery in Porvoo and their logo has been used here also. This was a Haaga-Helia UAS project.
THE RESULT
To achieve a fresh, attention attractive and modern eticet I went with a clear design with interesting colour combinations and abstract forms.
My inspiration for the designs was the elements of the city and the atmosphere. I took the Porvoo city’s visual identity and created a brand new design using the forms and the colours of Porvoo city. Porvoo is a bilingual city and I wrote the texts in Swedish.
I designed three different eticet for this line and a coaster:
The Red Ale beer was inspired by flame and fire. Red Ale from Kråkö Bryggeri has a smoky aroma. The flame (flamma in Swedish) comes from the atmosphere of living and pulsating Porvoo city.
Dröm Hazy IPA is inspired from Porvoo city slogan “The city of Dreams”. Dröm means dream, and I selected here dreamlike hazy IPA from Kråkö Bryggeri.
Sommar Lager is of course a celebration of the busy and sunny summers of Porvoo Old City. The colours are fresh and crisp green and yellow like summer. Perfect combination for an easy-going lager in a hot summer day.
This line of beers would be easy to spot on the stores in Porvoo city and would attract young urban people, who usually buy handcrafted beer and enjoy visually attractive products. Bottle and a coaster could be a perfect souvenir!
